How Errors Are Counted
All government exams use the word-by-word error method. A "word" is any sequence of characters separated by spaces.
Counted as Errors ❌
- Wrong character anywhere in the word
- Extra character inserted
- Missing character
- Wrong matra (vowel sign) in Hindi
- Wrong consonant in Hindi
- Missing halant (virama) in Hindi
- Extra or missing space between words
- Wrong word order (transposition)
Not Counted as Errors ✅
- Correcting mistakes using backspace before space
- Final typed word is correct — no matter how many backspaces used
- Typing speed variation
WPM Calculation
Gross WPM = Total Words Typed ÷ Time in Minutes
Net WPM = Correct Words ÷ Time in Minutes
